Laurel magazine — May 1, 2008 —

After its successful inaugural meeting in April, the Asheville Writing Enthusiasts (AWE) will resume monthly meetings on Saturday May 3, 2008, in the Board Room at Pack Place, 2 South Pack Square in downtown Asheville at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker this time will be David Pereda, director of AWE, who will be giving a presentation geared to aspiring writers, published authors and literature lovers titled “Understanding the Basic Elements of Fiction.”

Pereda, an award-winning author of five novels, is a member of the staff at A-B Tech, where he teaches creative writing and ESL (English as a Second Language). His poetry has appeared in several anthologies. He also writes a wine column for “Pasajero,” the in-flight magazine of Aeropostal, the international Venezuelan airline.
AWE has three main objectives: (1) to encourage and educate Asheville area writers through a diverse slate of speakers and monthly critique sessions, (2) to establish and develop contacts with authors, editors, agents and publishers and (3) to foster a community of support among writers who endeavor to improve their craft.
AWE holds regular meetings on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and meets at the same time on the third Saturday of each month for critiques.
